about me

John M is a Linux fan in Lowell, MA.

I work at at a company writing software. I fool around with Free and Open Source software for fun & profit.

I was big into and you can still see some of what I listen to there. I can also be found using github and recently sourcehut as well as bitbucket (historically). I don't care for most popular social media sites. If I have an account on one or the other it's probably either old and unused or was created just for tinkering.

Links to things I like, use, or otherwise feel is worth sharing. Things I'd like to see get more popular.

Weekly Roundup IV

I commited my most fundamental change to the codebase at work so far. I was pretty proud, but late on Friday we found some issues. However, it is nothing that I can't deal with in the scripted portion of the code. Have I mentioned how much I like working in python? :-)

Finally got Amarok Beta 2 compiled and installed on my system. That damn mysql embedded library did not want to link without -fPIC. Instead of waiting patiently, I just forced the CFLAGS on the mysql install. Not as clean as waiting for Gentoo to come up with a better fix in the ebuild but I can at least use the program with fewer bugs.
